Home Access HIV Test

Q: How accurate is the Home Access test?

A: This product is clinically proven to be greater than 99.9% accurate using the same tests run by doctors and hospitals. Data from Phase III clinical trials have been published in the American Medical Association’s Archives of Internal Medicine (Vol. 157, 2/10/97).

Q: When should I test?

A: If you think that you have been exposed to HIV, you should be tested. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that if it's been 6 months since the last time you could've possibly been exposed and you test negative, you can feel confident with your negative test result.

Q: How confidential and anonymous is the test?

A: Your test result is completely anonymous. Only you, the test taker, have access to your test result. There are no names associated with your personal Home Access Code Number.

Q: Are there any drugs or medical conditions that could influence the results?

A: The test is not recommended for hemophiliacs or individuals taking blood thinning medications such as anticoagulants.

Q: How do I take the test?

A: It’s easy. Just call in to register your anonymous Home Access Code Number. Then collect a blood spot sample by following the instructions included in your kit. (If you have questions, you can call our toll-free number for assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.) Ship your sample back to the laboratory for processing and then call in to find out your test result. Depending upon the test you purchase, you will be able to find out your test result in three business days or about a week.

Q: When can I get my results?

A: The Home Access Express offers results in just three business days.

Q: How are results given?

A: Once your test is processed, you can call in to find out your test result 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You retrieve your results by calling a toll-free number included in your test kit. If you are transferred to a counselor, don’t panic, this does not mean that you have tested positive.

Q: Can I get a copy of my results in writing?

A: No. This isn't an option because our test is anonymous. There is no name or address ever associated with your test result.

Code Number Registration and Pre-Test Counseling

You begin by calling a toll free number to register your anonymous Home Access code number and complete pre-test counseling. You can choose to speak to a Home Access counselor or use our automated registration and education system. Our counselors are available 24 hours a day, every day, to help you with any questions or personal concerns.

Sample Collection

Using the retractable safety lancet provided, you prick your fingertip and place drops of blood on the blood specimen card included in the test kit. You only need enough blood to fill a circle smaller than a dime.

Shipping

Your blood sample is protected by an enclosed weather resistant protective pouch which is placed in a self-addressed, pre-paid FedEx® or U.S. Mail shipping envelope, all included in the test kit. Your sample is shipped directly to Home Access' certified laboratory.

Laboratory Analysis

Mid-American Technologies, Inc. (MAT), located in Olathe, KS, is dedicated solely to the Home Access HIV test system and the company’s future products. MAT’s procedures and protocols have been certified by the United States Food and Drug Administration under CGMPs (Current Good Manufacturing Practices). At the laboratory, your blood sample is screened and confirmed by experienced technicians using the exact same tests ordered by doctors' offices, hospitals and clinics, ensuring greater than 99.9% accuracy.

Results and Post-Test Counseling

After shipping your blood sample, you call back on the same toll-free number after either three or seven days (depending on which kit you purchased). You access your test result and receive post-test counseling by once again entering your Home Access® code number. Home Access® counselors are available to offer nationwide medical and social service referrals to people requiring further assistance. Counselors can search from more than 19,000 organizations included in Home Access' referral database to identify the most appropriate resource to meet your specific needs.
